How to reach out when you’re feeling anxious

When we’re struggling with feelings of fear or anxiety it can really help to talk things over with someone we trust.

Even the act of speaking our worries out loud can take away some of their power.

A supportive friend can also help us gain perspective, something that can be harder to do when we’re already in an anxious state ourselves.

Despite how important it is, asking for help can be really tough for many of us.

There’s a perception that when we need to lean on others for support it makes us weak or not as independent as we should be.

The reality is that we all need help from time to time. When we’re able to reach out and ask for it, we’re much better off than those who are attempting to deal with everything on their own.

You don’t need to be apologetic about wanting some help. Don’t forget that many people love to lend support. It makes them feel valued and needed.

Think about how you feel when someone turns to you - the pleasure you get from knowing that you have had a positive impact on their life.

If you do reach out to someone and they’re not able to help you at that time then don’t give up, see if someone else can step in.

Remember too, that these anxious feelings will pass and then you may be the person who is able to help someone else.
